The popularity of bamboo also starts growing in our western community. Reason for this are it’s exceptional properties.

The material is stable, robust and durable. Nevertheless bamboo can be bent easily and is the ideal material for outdoor areas.

 

Bamboo is not a tree

Bamboo belongs to the Family of grasses. Their main similarities are the slender straws which are extremely stable and can therefore grow very high. The well known giant bamboo can therefore reach a height of up to 40 meters. Not bad for just ‘grass’.

Rain and flood aren’t a problem

Bamboo grows mostly near water, which is why the plant is water resistant and rather insensitive to the weather. It’s robust traits and longevity make it one of the best materials for your outdoor space.

Poisonous?

More new more gardens or public spaces plant bamboo. The plant counts as exotic and its sprouts are even edible. Nevertheless there is a rumour whether bamboo is poisonous? True or false?

The majority of bamboo species are not poisonous!

Especially the ones being imported and now found locally are absolutely harmless.

There are however some species which will release Prussic acid, to protect themselves from predators.

In product production the raw material needs to be mixed with other materials, which makes it not 100% biodegradable.

The bamboo industry is however on the right track and the majority of its products are made of 100% of bamboo.
